Fine-grading finesse
John Deere has rolled out an Extra Long Tract (XLT)
version of its 115-horsepower, 26,800-pound 700H crawler dozer. The XLT
track is as long as the low ground-pressure version of the machine, but its
22-inch shoes are 6 inches narrower. This configuration gives the machine
increased traction for enhanced fine-grading operations.

Bigger Case dozers
Case
has introduced its two largest-ever crawler dozers, the 205-horsepower 1850K
and the 145-horsepower 1650K. The new K-series machines feature advanced
hydraulics and a hydrostatic turning system that powers the tracks at
variable speeds for smooth, responsive steering. The three-speed,
torque-converter transmission matches engine speed to load requirements and
downshifts automatically when the work load increases.

Combination bucket/blade/beam
The Flyin’ Blade combines a heavy-duty digging bucket,
grading beam, muck bucket, hydraulic tilt, and quick disconnect into a
single tool system for excavators and backhoe-loaders. Applications include
dozing with minimal environmental impact, ditch and canal cleaning, and
roadway maintenance.

Versatile narrow-width paver
LeeBoy’s
new 5000 Path Master Paver is designed for agencies and contractors
constructing recreational trails, sidewalks, utility trenches, and other
narrow-width paving applications. The unit paves 5- to 9-foot widths and
features proportional steering and electronic controls from either the right
or left side. A hydraulically raised hopper bed enhances undercarriage
maintenance and the LeeBoy Legend Screed System features easily adjustable
hydraulic screed extensions.
In February, the company also announced the LeeBoy EDGE, a
sales promotion for its products purchased through April 30th, which
includes interest-free financing and $1,000 worth of free parts.

Cramped space work platform
UpRight has created a new electronic scissor lift that is
narrow enough to fit through a doorway, yet can lift 500 pounds of workers
and gear to a 32-foot working height — 6 feet higher than industry norms
for ultra-compact lifts. The X26 Ultra-N has a tight turning radius and can
climb 26% grades.

New slipform paver alliance
Power
Curbers has formed a new manufacturing company to produce a new line of
concrete, slipform paving equipment. Power Pavers is based in Iowa and will
initially manufacture a two-track machine for the residential market that
will pave widths from 12 to 32 feet. Other products will follow.

Re-engineered mid-size excavator
Cat
has introduced a C-Series version of its popular 63,100-pound 325
excavator. The 325C has 12% more horsepower, more hydraulic flow, a new cab,
new attachments, and cost-cutting maintenance features. The new engine meets
Tier II worldwide emissions standards.

Turbo mower
The John Deere 1600 Turbo Wide-Area Mower uses a
turbo-charged 64-horsepower diesel engine and a 22-gallon fuel tank to
operate all day at a clip rate of 8.5 acres per hour and 6.5 miles per hour
without refueling. The unit has a top mowing speed of 8.6 miles per hour and
a top transport speed of 14.5 miles per hour. Three mower decks give the
unit a cutting width of nearly 11 feet.

Fast-working medium crane
Auto
Crane says its 38,000-pound 6406 telescoping crane has a two-speed
rotation feature that doubles the rotation speed of the crane when unloaded
and reduces speed under load to eliminate load swing. A new control
mechanism allows the operator to choose between an FM remote control or
traditional pendant control. A 20-foot hydraulic extension is standard.

Advanced tag axle
Bigger
payloads are the promise of Cemen Tech’s new Maxle trailing lift-axle
features on the company Mobile Concrete Dispensers. The hydraulically
powered axle has a 12,000-pound capacity; it takes weight off the rear axle
and distributes more to the front axle. The company says it can increase
load capacity by up to 2.5 cubic yards.

Improved anti-segregation pavers
Cedarapids
has improved its Remix Anti-Segregation System pavers with new controls that
ensure the uniform flow of asphalt to the screed, allowing the paving crew
to focus on mat quality rather than the machine. The operator sets the ratio
between hopper-feed augers and screed-spreading augers, then the system’s
speed sensors automatically control the flow of asphalt to the screed based
on actual spread-auger speed. The system also uses input from load-sensing
transducers to automatically proportion material flow to the screed,
enhancing productivity and the service life of components.

Cold planer cuts faster
FFC
Attachments’ new cold planer is designed to cut faster by delivering
more horsepower per bit than other models. Designed specifically for
skid-steer loaders, the FFC Cold Planer mills frost heaves and around
manholes, restores drainage to pavement, removes traffic lane stripes, and
handles full-depth utility cuts. It also scarifies concrete and planes
sidewalks and street joints. It is available in 12- and 16-inch widths for
standard-flow skid-steers, and in six widths between 16 and 36 inches for
high-flow machines.
