Hinged reflector
The
I-Flex Guardrail marker, developed by Davidson
Traffic Control Products, features a built-in flexible urethane hinge
system that allows the reflector to fold down and spring back to its
original upright position after impact. The marker can be installed in just

Controlling soil compaction
Humboldt Mfg.’s Geogauge, in conjunction with the new ASTM Standard
D6758, has established an effective means of controlling soil compaction to
performance specifications by measuring for the mechanical and material
properties during the construction process. GeoGauge allows contractors to
continuously take direct readings during compaction to maintain critical
uniformity and consistency. Applications include: compaction of subgrade,
subbase, and base to performance specifications; monitoring the strength
gain of lime, cement, fly-ash, and polymer stabilized materials; monitoring
compaction of trench or utility backfills to previous or surrounding
properties; and monitoring the compaction of asphalt and cold in-place
recycling to peak properties to prevent wasted effort and damaging
over-compaction.

Blast cleaning system
The Blastrac 2-20D portable blast cleaning system produces a 20-inch
blast pattern to strip, clean, and profile concrete or steel surfaces in a
single step. The 2-20D is designed for medium- to large-sized jobs such as
highway or bridge work, airport runways and tarmacs, and parking garages.
The system uses two side-by-side blast wheels that are positioned to ensure
an even pattern, and has a travel speed of up to 108 feet/minute. The
powerful 8-54 dust collector features eight filter cartridges for maximum
dust handling and hours of continuous use without emptying. Blastrac is a
division of USF Surface Preparation Group.

Aggregate freeze/thaw admixture
EMC SQUARED Stabilizer, a concentrated liquid stabilization treatment
developed by Soil
Stabilization Products Company, effectively treats highly moisture and
frost susceptible aggregate base materials that are subject to deformation
and additional distress in cold regions due to frost-heave and thaw
weakening. Application of the stabilizer can be accomplished by mixing it
with the aggregates or by simply spraying it onto the road. The stabilized
aggregate surface provides excellent running surfaces requiring little to no
maintenance.

Electronic toll collection
A
new transponder from Mark IV IVHS will soon make coast-to-coast electronic
toll collection possible. Ubiquity spans the technology chasms that exist
among toll road and bridge authorities and offers additional functionality
demanded by commercial motor carriers. It is the first transponder to comply
with a proposed interim federal standard from the U.S. Department of
Transportation. Operating at more than 80% of all North American toll
facilities, Ubiquity replaces multiple transponders with one device.
