Trim asphalt compactor maneuvers easily
Maneuverable and compact, the new DD-12S double-drum vibratory asphalt
compactor from Ingersoll-Rand
is designed to compact hot-mix asphalt, and is also equipped for effective
soil sub-base and aggregate base applications. Powered by a 16-horsepower
gasoline engine, the machine delivers a centrifugal force of 3,300 pounds at
a frequency of up to 4,000 vibrations-per-minute. Vibration feedback is said
to be virtually eliminated from reaching the operator due to front vibratory
drum isolation.

New oil engineered for EGR engines
ExxonMobil has introduced a new heavy-duty engine oil for use with
conventional engines and with the new exhaust gas recirculation-equipped
engines. Available under the dual monikers of Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40
and Exxon XD-3, the oil incorporates patented Trimer technology and is
engineered to meet upcoming American Petroleum Institute CI-4 requirements
and the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2002 emission mandate. Enhanced
TBN retention provides acid neutralization throughout the entire drain
interval. Hotter-running EGR engines are specifically accommodated with
extended thermal stability for high temperature performance, a high
viscosity index for reliable operation over a broad range of temperatures,
and soot handling capabilities. The oil is compatible with previous engine
oil formulations and engine designs and is engineered to allow greater oil
drain interval extension, provide superior wear protection and improved
engine durability, extend filter life, and lower overall maintenance costs.

is moving, decreases power-train loads, and reduces the amount of support
equipment needed for spreading and dozing. The D7R Series II track-type
tractor features a new 240-horsepower 3176C engine and is designed for
applications ranging from finish grading to production dozing. The company
has also announced two new compact radius excavators, the 17,700-pound 308C
CR, and the 35,500-pound 314C CR hydraulic excavator; the pair have tail
swing radii of 4 feet, 3 inches and 4 feet, 10 inches, respectively. Cat has
also announced a C-series version of the 77,400-pound 330C L hydraulic

Asphalt plant cuts energy costs
The Milemaker
line of portable and stationary counterflow asphalt plants from Asphalt
Drum Mixers offers long drying and mixing times without sacrificing
eight-load portability. Designed with separate drying and mixing drums to
effectively blend additives and modifiers, the plants are offered in three
models: 160, 225, and 325. The completely sealed counterflow drying drum
limits aggregate moisture levels prior to exiting the drum. The counterflow
plants reportedly require about 15% less fuel per ton to operate than
standard drum mix plants, and allow higher mixing temperatures to eliminate
unfavorable exhaust emission gases. Units are designed to be setup and
operational in days with no crane requirement.
