New generation asphalt roller line

Bomag continues to changeover its asphalt roller line to a new-from-the-ground-up series. The latest additions: the 79-inch-drum BW190AD-4 HF, the 47-inch-drum BW120HD-4, and the 39-inch-drum BW100AD-4. A 66-inch model was introduced earlier this year.

The top-of-the-line BW190AD-4 HF was designed to give the operator excellent visibility and comfort, as well as for productivity. It has slanted drum support legs, high curb clearance, and an open design for the front and rear frames giving the operator an unrestricted view of the sprinkler system as well as both drums. The 131-horsepower unit delivers 28,800 pounds of centrifugal force in low amplitude/high frequency (3,600 vpm), and 40,950 pounds in high amplitude/low frequency (2,880 vpm). Bomag says its independent drum vibration control and dual amplitudes allow the roller to handle a variety of lift thicknesses and applications ranging from granular bases to Superpave.

At 5,732 pounds, the BW120AD-4 tandem roller has a 34-horsepower, three-cylinder diesel engine and generates a maximum centrifugal force of 10,125 pounds — 6% more than the model it replaces. It has a choice of 3,300 vpm or 4,200 vpm vibration frequencies and can work at up to 4 miles per hour in high frequency. Bomag increased the size of both the fuel tank (now 10.6 gallons) and the water tank (now 58.1 gallons) in the dash-4 version.

And the 34-horsepower BW100AD-4 is billed by the company as a compact machine offering large roller performance. Weighing 5,291 pounds, the unit produces up to 8,550 pounds of centrifugal force per drum, 15% more than the previous model. It also has a high frequency of 4,200 vpm (6% more than the model it replaces), and larger fuel and water tanks.

Loader-mounted crusher

Oklahoma-based Iron Wolf is marketing a self-contained, loader-mounted crusher that it says can cut rock or pavement at speeds up to 133 feet per minute in 10-foot-wide swaths. The 525-horsepower Model 1040 Site Preparation Rock Crusher can operate at depths of 12 inches and produce as much as 500 tons per hour of 3-inch minus material, according to the company. The company also offers 5- and 8-foot wide models.

Fast coupler boosts productivity

John Deere says its new Work Pro hydraulic quick-coupler makes operators of the company’s backhoe loaders more productive. The model for the 310G, 310SG, and 410G backhoe loaders can accommodate backhoe-loader attachments made by Deere, JRB, and Caterpillar.

The coupler made for the 710G backhoe loaders can pick up backhoe and four-wheel-drive loader attachments made by Deere and JRB. Lift capacities and breakout forces with the new quick-coupler are comparable to the previous coupler.

Bolt-on track system

Loegering has introduced a unique bolt-on Versatile Track System for skid-steer loaders. The rubber-track system is said to take about an hour to install; the 18-inch-wide rubber tracks bolt directly to the hubs of most skid-steer loader models and do not require machine modifications. Loegering says the tracks reduce a machine’s ground pressure to less than 5 psi and add more drive torque, traction, and stability.

New cold planer line

The Case/Bradco HP Series is a new line of cold-planer attachments for skid-steer loaders. The five-model series ranges from 16- to 40-inches wide and provides cutting depths to 5 inches. Case recommends the new planers for work in both high-density concrete and asphalt, and for leveling frost heaves, milling potholes, cutting butt joints and T-caps, and removing pavement next to curbs and gutters prior to overlay. Features include an in-cab control of depth, tilt, and sideshift, as well as an independent pivoting head that provides better contour tracking.

Reshaping the hammer

Allied Construction Products has introduced a completely reshaped hydraulic hammer line for skid-steer loaders and mini excavators. The new “in-Series” design features what Allied calls “a massive trapezoidal tool” that is virtually unbreakable and designed for extremely long service life with excellent productivity. The four-model line ranges from working weights of 132 pounds to 474 pounds. They require no greasing, no nitrogen gas checking or charging, and no steel tool bushings.

Coolant conversion kit

ChevronTexaco says its new FleetFix Conversion Pack lets fleet owners convert conventional coolant currently being used in heavy-duty vehicles and equipment to an extended life coolant — without having to drain, flush, and refill the cooling system. In addition to saving time and labor, says the company, its conversion pack helps owners avoid cross-contamination.

FleetFix-modified coolant can have a service life of up to 600,000 miles, 6 years, or 12,000 hours using an extender addition at the half-way point, according to ChevronTexaco.

Ice prevention overlay

A four-page brochure highlights SmartLane, a new aggregate-based anti-icing pavement overlay system from Cargill Salt. The brochure details how SmartLane stores and then automatically releases deicer during frost and ice events, virtually eliminating ice on bridge decks and other susceptible roadways. The deicing program creates several savings benefits:

Increased traction reduces accidents.

Diminished need to follow inclement weather means call-outs and overtime pay can be better contained.

Total deicing chemical use is decreased, creating less runoff into the local environment.

Using less deicing chemicals, combined with the protective overlay epoxy found in SmartLane, reduces the effects of chloride and water intrusion.
