High-tech sweeper in compact size
Tennant says its new Sentinel street sweeper brings to the market the
high-tech advantages of its award-winning Centurion in a smaller and
lower-priced package. Together, the two models form Tennant’s StreetMaster
series of outdoor sweepers.
The Sentinel is an 83-horsepower, highly automated four-season sweeper.
In addition to one-button sweeping, Tennant
claims it has exceptional debris
removal abilities, and minimizes dust. A new option, the operator-adjustable
Vario Sweeping Brush, permits sweeping around obstacles and on top-of-curb
areas not accessible to other sweepers. Its center-suspended floating main
broom automatically adjusts to road surface variations.
In addition to push-button sweeping mode selection, the Sentinel’s
sweeping system self-adjusts to brush wear levels. The unit meets PM10 dust
requirements with a dry filtering system that controls dust generated by the
main brush, even in sub-freezing temperatures. The unit’s cab is
insulated, soundproofed, and pressurized with air filtered to 3 microns for
easy breathing
The combination of a short wheelbase and four-wheel power steering gives
the unit a turning radius of 13 feet.

All-in-one trailer/melter
Cimline’s new ServicePro line of trailer/melters features a large
storage area and the company’s 115-gallon HeatWave direct-fire melter. The
melter’s tube-fired heating system uses two 7-inch-diameter single-pass
flues that are 0.1875-inches thick and run 4 inches from the bottom of the
kettle. Cimline says the technology provides superior strength and maximum
heating surface, so sealant is heated quickly and evenly. The large,
lockable storage cabinet on the trailer can house all the tools needed for a
crack-sealing job and provides access from either side of the unit.

City-sized articulated hauler
Volvo Construction Equipment says its new A25D articulated hauler has the
compact dimensions needed for working in confined areas like congested urban
job sites and tunnels and underground mines. The 4x4 truck has a wheel base
15.75-inches shorter than its predecessor, reducing its turning radius. An
optional hydraulic turn-around system further reduces the turning radius,
allowing the hauler to turn 180 degrees in just over 31 feet of space in
about 25 seconds.
The A25D 4x4 has a payload capacity of 26.5 tons and a top speed of 32.9
miles per hour. It has a 17-cubic-yard heaped load capacity, with maximum
ground pressure forces of 23 psi on the front wheels and 28.1 psi on the
rear. The 306-horsepower unit has a load-sensing hydraulic system that helps
it achieve a 19% rimpull increase and 14% productivity gains compared to its
predecessor.

High production loader gets refined
Cat’s 800-horsepower, 15 to 16 cubic-yard 992G wheel loader has been
given a series of refinements, including linkage pin joints redesigned to
enhance lubrication and service life, and stronger cast box boom, rear
frame, and hydraulic tank support. The transmission drop box, rear axle, and
parking brake have been modified for increased durability in severe
conditions. The 992G is used in quarries, mining, and other high-production
settings.

Three-in-one snow and ice system
Henderson designed its First Response system to provide precision control
and ample capacity for anti-icing liquid applications, granular spreading,
and/or pre-wetting. The operator can change from one function to another on
the go. The truck-mounted body is crafted from 304 stainless steel, is
continuously welded on the inside and outside, and is available in lengths
from 9 to 15 feet. The 9-foot unit weighs about 3,900 pounds and can hold
5.2 cubic yards (struck) of granular material and 900 gallons of liquid.

New loader and tool carrier debut
Komatsu has introduced a Series-5 version of its WA250 wheel loader and
tool carrier. The new WA250-5 and WA250-5PT are now powered by a Tier-2
compliant engine which Komatsu says enhances productivity while working at a
lower engine speed (2,000 rpm) than the previous models. This results in
lower emissions, and a 15% drop in fuel consumption, according to the
company. Cabs have been expanded and enhanced with lower noise levels and
better climate control.

Mobile unit sprays concrete cures
E-Z Drill has introduced its new Cure Sprayer Trailer, designed to
distribute a wide variety of concrete curing materials. The heavy-duty
trailer has an axle rated for a 2,000-pound load, and includes fork tubes
and 40 feet of half-inch sprayer hose. E-Z Drill says the trailer has a
unique self-loading feature that includes a pump powered by a 5 horsepower
engine that propels the cure directly from the barrel into the trailer’s
100-gallon tank.

Short radius excavator gets dozer power
Kobelco has extended its Blade Runner excavator/dozer concept to a
36,000-pound, short radius model, the ED150. The new 94-horsepower machine
has a swing radius that extends just over 5 inches beyond the width of its
tracks when the upper frame is rotated through a complete swing arc. With a
standard 9-foot, 8-inch arm, the ED150 has a digging reach of 29 feet, 9
inches and a maximum digging depth of 19 feet, 2 inches. As a dozer, it has
a six-way power angle tilt blade that measures 10 feet, 8 inches long and
has a capacity of 2.9 cubic yards. As a dozer, the ED150 has 32,600 pounds
of drawbar pull.

New bagging system for landscape materials
Morbark has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with the
Sandbagger Corporation for the exclusive manufacturing and marketing rights
in the organic recycling industry for the MultiBagger system. According to
Morbark, the MultiBagger can quickly and affordably bag a variety of
products, including landscape mulch, compost, soil products, manure, gravel,
and sand. The company says a crew of three can fill more than 1,000 bags per
hour. The unit has a 2-cubic-yard feed hopper with three filling stations
that release material when a simple foot control is activated. The unit can
be quickly modified to handle a variety of bag sizes.

Self-contained crusher
The new closed-circuit Pegson 4242 SR horizontal impact crusher plant
comes complete with a screen and stockpiling conveyor with a magnetic
separator. Built on one self-contained chassis, the new unit is recommended
for primary or secondary applications with concrete and asphalt rubble,
demolition debris, and aggregates, especially limestone with low to normal
silica content. Pegson claims the unit can be set up and operating within 10
minutes of arrival on site, and can produce up to 396 tons per hour,
depending on feed material and finished product size. One, two, or three
screened product sizes can be produced and stockpiled. Oversize material can
be returned to the crusher inlet in a closed circuit via an on-board return
conveyor for guaranteed finished top size.

Fuel-efficient drum mixer
Dillman claims its patented Duo-Drum Mixing System boasts the industry’s
lower fuel cost per ton of hot-mix asphalt produced, regardless of burner
fuel type and aggregate moisture content. The company says Duo-Drums have
the largest independent counter-flow dryers manufactured, both in diameter
and length. Patented adjustable dryer flights allow for optimal veiling of
the aggregate in the dryer, and the Duo-Drum trunions have easy, single
point adjustment and use massive railroad bearings, according to Dillman.
Duo-Drum uses the latest Hauck Burners technology, which supplies 100% of
the air needed for combustion, resulting in decreased fuel costs and low
emission levels.
