Trailer-mounted boom lift
JLG
Industries’ new Tow-Pro trailer-mounted boom lifts have large working
envelopes and fast towing speeds up to 65 miles per hour. They feature
self-leveling hydraulic outriggers, a removable platform control box
with simplified one-handed proportional controls, and a unique boom
design. The T350 (shown) has a 35-foot platform height with 20-foot
horizontal reach; the T500J has a 50-foot platform height that includes
a 4-foot jib boom with 130 degree vertical motion and has a 30-foot
horizontal reach. Both feature 370 degree non-continuous turntable
rotation and have 500 pounds unrestricted capacity in their 30- by
48-inch aluminum platform. Standard features include surge brakes,
parking brakes, an hour meter, tilt alarm, air and water lines, and a
110-volt AC receptacle in the platform.

Bridge corrosion protection
Rhomar’s
Bridge-Tec 2000 is a remarkable clear encapsulant that solves the
problem of corrosion on bridges from salt and calcium chloride. The
product stops the aggression of salts and chlorides and protects metal
or concrete components. Because it’s clear in color, it doesn’t distract
from aesthetics; it rejuvenates and brightens dull faded paint.
Bridge-Tec 2000 is easily applied with Rhomar’s DOT applicator.

Clearance measuring system
Bridge Diagnostics developed the ClearanceMaster
3000, a laser-based measuring system that attaches to any vehicle with a
receiver hitch and has an accuracy of +/-0.5 inch. The unit collects and
stores accurate vertical roadway clearances while traveling at highway
speeds, allowing for vertical clearances of bridges, roadway signs,
power lines, and other overhead objects while keeping personnel in the
safety of the vehicle. A stabilization device ensures that a plumb
measurement is taken on any surface, even on roads with a super
elevation or deep ruts. Data is stored in database format and easily
imported into existing Bridge Management Systems. Other features include
onboard GPS, real-time graphing, touch-screen interface, and
Windows-based software.

Fluorescent pavement markers
Avery Dennison’s new 80FO Series
fluorescent-orange construction work-zone reflective pavement marker is
designed to lead motorists through hazardous work zones by using the
fluorescent color currently available for barrels and other work-zone
signage. The 80FO represents a new generation of raised pavement markers
for both short- and long-term work zones. Its improved lens and body
materials virtually eliminate cracking, significantly improving signal
life while minimizing specific index loss.

Pavement software
Nearly 100 features were added or enhanced in
CarteGraph Software Suite’s new Version 6.3. Enhancements to the
PAVEMENTview and PAVEMENTview Plus modules simplify the interface making
entering and analyzing data easier. A new MR&R Protocol wizard guides
you through the process of customizing your analysis protocols and
preemptions. A new Report Writing wizard provides a quick and easy
interface for editing the 200 predefined reports or building new
reports. Other upgrades were implemented to enhance user experience and
to simplify daily operations.

Truck/spreader vibrator
The heavy-duty Power Ox vibrator from Tendaire
Industries is ideal for dump trucks, sand/ salt spreaders, dump
trailers, concrete batch hoppers, snow removal equipment, front-end
loader buckets, dozer blades, and many more applications. The rotating
vibrator is gusseted, uses heavier bearings, and transmits more thrust
to shake loose those sticky, wet, and frozen materials quickly and
safely.

Field-service retroreflectometer
Gamma Scientific’s new portable, raised-pavement
marker reflectometer field unit enables fast, easy retroreflection
measurement on wet or dry surfaces. The Model 1200F field-service
retroreflectometer includes an internal GPS, onboard printer, and
storage for up to 10,000 datapoints. The lightweight, wheeled instrument
captures an individual datapoint, global position, and timestamp
simultaneously at the push of a button and can generate a hardcopy on
the spot. It meets ASTM, CIE, and DIN specifications and includes a
top-mounted LCD for direct view of readings.

Curb inlet stormwater filter
The
ClearWater BMP stormwater filter is a stainless-steel filter train that
screens, triple settles, and filters stormwater within the confines of
an existing concrete curb inlet drain box. This design reduces
concentrations of trash, sediment, hydrocarbons, metals, and nutrients.
Specifically designed for retrofitting within
the existing curb and gutter infrastructure, it handles heavy storm
flows with ease, is non-scouring, uses mosquito-free technology, and
requires no excavation or concrete modification.

Bridge coating
Bayer Material Science’s Baytec SPR elastomeric
thick film coating technology waterproofs and protects roads and bridges
from wear and tear and Mother Nature. The coating forms a seamless,
elastic waterproofing seal that resists damage caused to concrete by
freeze/thaw cycles and corrosion. The polyurethane backbone yields
excellent flexibility that allows the coating to bridge gaps, cracks,
and microfissures, even when the temperature drops below zero. Baytec
SPR has been approved by a variety of federal, state, and local
authorities as well as civil engineering and consulting firms in the
U.S. and worldwide.

Pavement smoothness software
The Transtec Group’s latest version of FHWA
software for pavement smoothness, ProVAL 2.5, is now available on its
Web site. The new version adds a major update, the Smoothness Assurance
Module. SAM aids the user in optimizing diamond grinding strategies. The
software determines out-of-spec locations, creates a histogram of
continuous roughness reports and a traditional fixed-interval roughness
report while giving the user generous flexibility in defining grinding
simulation and strategies. The user can now measure the beneficial
impact of a grinding operation.

Breakaway sign post
The
new Snap’NSafe breakaway device from Designovations reduces the
possibility of serious injuries that many times occur when vehicles
strike square sign posts. The Snap’NSafe coupler is positioned between
the anchors and the sign posts, shearing away at impact. This shearing
virtually eliminates the possibility of the sign or post penetrating the
vehicle and reduces time and money spent returning the sign to service.
The coupler saves highway departments money by allowing the expensive
and difficult-to-replace anchors to remain intact and ready for
immediate reuse. Installation of the coupler requires no special tools
installation is fast and easy.
