Brush mower/herbicide applicator
Brown
Manufacturing’s new Brown Brush Monitor is a patented tool that mows and
applies herbicide in one pass. The tasks are separated into two specialized
chambers. In the first chamber, the brush is cut and discharged through a
side door. In the second chamber, the remaining stubble, below, is treated
with herbicides. Rather than broadcasting the herbicide, only the stubble
under the mower deck is targeted, which cuts down on the amount of herbicide
used. By conducting both tasks at the same time, you can save time, money,
and manpower.

Snow blower
Loegering’s new snow blower, the LSB48, has a throwing distance of up
to 30 feet, a 14-inch auger diameter, a 24-inch cutting height, and weighs
670 pounds. Loegering’s exclusive impeller design draws in only as much
snow as it can throw, providing the appropriate balance of rpm and torque to
maximize both capacity and throwing distances. The reversible auger and
impeller design expels obstruction without requiring the operator to exit
the loader. The hydraulically driven chute, auger, impeller, and deflector
provide easier adjusting, longer life, and less maintenance.

Mid-cut riding mower
Encore Manufacturing Co.’s new Prowler Mid Cut has an exclusive
side-to-side articulating floating deck, no-slip disc brakes, and
maintenance-free blade spindles. The deck suspension allows both front
wheels to maintain ground contact over rough terrain, improving stability
and smoothing out the ride, while reducing scalping and allowing a faster
operating speed. A PTO shaft powers the blades at 19,000 rpm and a
heavy-gauge deck with special reinforcement channels controls vibration.
Operator controls have been repositioned and the height adjustment has been
extended within easy reach. The Prowler is available with a 52-, 61-, or
72-inch deck.

Paving equipment trailer
Landoll Corporation’s 400 series traveling axle trailer is available in
either tandem or triple axle and has a load angle as low as 6.6 degrees for
accessible loading of paving equipment. The 425 model (pictured) is tandem
axle, 41-feet long, 102-inches wide, and rated at a 35-ton capacity, with
optional aluminum pullouts to increase width to 13 feet. The trailer is a
four-beam design with fabricated 100,000 psi yield material and can be
pulled with either a single or tandem axle tractor.

Ride-on shot blast system
The Blastrac
GPX 10-18 from Blastrac, a division of USF Surface Preparation Group, is a
propane-powered ride-on shot blast cleaning system that strips, cleans, and
profiles simultaneously. The environmentally friendly system features its
own onboard dust collection system to control dust and contaminants and is
ideal for bridge-deck repair, highway maintenance, line stripe removal, and
more. With a 10-inch blast cleaning path and a travel speed of up to 200
feet per minute, the GPX 10-18 has a production capacity of as much as 1,300
square feet per hour.

Erosion control system
The SedimentStop Biodegradable Filtration System, developed by North
American Green, filters sediment from stormwater runoff on sloping areas
that are vulnerable to significant erosion and sediment problems.
SedimentStop is lightweight, easy to handle, more effective than hay bales
and straw wattles, and more environmentally friendly than silt fence. The
system consists of a mixture of weed-free straw and coconut fiber reinforced
with a 100% organic netting, and creates a temporary, biodegradable,
water-permeable structure that offers superior soil interception and
containment properties.

Mapping software
JMap Mapping Software, from Jamar Technologies, Inc., is a program
designed to help organize TRAXPro, PETRA, PC-Travel, and PC-Warrants traffic
data studies. The software displays a map of your city or county with icons
representing traffic studies performed at those locations. Details of the
study will be shown next to the map when the cursor is placed over the icon.
A single click of the mouse loads the study data into the appropriate Jamar
program.

Returnable, refillable containers
Dow AgroSciences has a service that provides roadside managers with
herbicides in returnable, refillable containers. This service decreases the
number of herbicide containers ending up in landfills and reduces the risk
of herbicide exposure to workers and the environment from spills because the
containers are part of a closed system. Cost/time savings is another
benefit, as there is no more mixing herbicides, plus no triple-rinsing,
shredding, and disposing of used containers. A bar code tracking system
helps with inventory management and makes crews more accountable for product
usage.

Highway drainage endwall
The HartmanEW
Endwall System is made of linear, low-density polyethylene and is tough
enough for use with drainage systems for major roads and highways or country
lanes. The system weighs less than 100 pounds, can be slipped piece by piece
into place by one or two workers, and is held together by screws — a
screwdriver or cordless drill is all that is needed for assembly. Its
cut-stone appearance makes it ideal for use in a wide variety of landscaping
situations. Bruce Hartman.

Automatic traffic data recorders
Jamar Technologies’ TRAX Plus Series of automatic traffic data
recorders offers accuracy, reliability, and many new features to make
traffic recording easier. The TRAX Plus Series can use up to six road tubes
and will collect data that can be used for volume, speed, classification
reports, and more with data analysis software. The line of counters has a
road tube diagnostic capability allowing identification of potential
problems with the tubes before setting out the count, and is able to store
GPS coordinates of study locations to be sure data is processed correctly.
There is also an ambient air temperature option and an auxiliary input card
option that will allow you to enter air quality information.

Epoxy-coated rebar
The Concrete
Reinforcing Steel Institute notes the recent study completed at the
University of Kansas Center for Research for the South Dakota DOT.
Addressing the corrosion of steel reinforcing bars in bridge decks, the
study concluded that epoxy-coated bars outperformed microcomposite steel
reinforcing and conventional black bar, and were found to be the most
cost-effective material for use in bridge decks.
