Traffic warning system
The
new IntelliZone AdvanceWarn System from Highway Information Systems, a
division of Quixote, is designed to improve the safety of motorists by
providing real-time information to warn motorists of potentially
dangerous conditions. The system incorporates several highway
information and safety technologies into one integrated system. It
consists of a QTT Road Weather Information System that monitors weather
and pavement conditions, traffic monitoring sensors, highway advisory
radio, and changeable message signs. The RWIS collects data from the
sensors embedded in the roadway; the IntelliZone system software
analyzes the data and sends a message to the radio and message signs
along the roadway; then the radios and message signs automatically
update to provide real-time information.

Disc mowers
New
Holland’s new HM Series disc mowers are available in three sizes
ranging from 5-foot, 6-inch to 7-foot, 11-inch cutting widths. The low
profile, oval-shaped cutting discs use two knives per disc to slice
through wet grass and break through fire ant hills and gopher mounds
along the roadway. Rock guards and skid shoes protect the discs and
carry the cutter bar over uneven ground. The mowers are simple to attach
and remove from the tractor.

Snowplow laser guide
Laserline’s
new GL3000C Wing Plow Guidance Laser uses an ultra-high-visibility laser
to establish wing-plow trailing edge location before the snowplow gets
there. The laser spot impacts on the road/snow surface ahead of the
truck and shows the driver where the wing plow trailing edge will be.
The laser guide was designed specifically for snowplow guidance and the
rigorous environment that the equipment is subjected to.

High-speed weighing
Cardinal’s
QWIM series of in-motion scales uses quartz sensors embedded in the
roadway to weigh vehicles at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. The
sensors are only 2-inches wide, have an IP-67 protection rating, are
available in single or dual sensor configuration, and can be installed
in less that a day. The scales provide individual axle and axle group
weights, vehicle gross weight, axle spacing, vehicle classification, and
speed of the vehicle. Available options include off-scale sensing,
over-height detection, automatic and manual traffic control, and
automatic vehicle identification.

Manhole cover lift
A
new product from Industrial Magnetics allows manhole covers to be moved
and replaced quickly, safely, and magnetically — by one person. The new,
patent-pending Magnetic Manhole Cover Lift System’s two, deep-reaching
PowerLift Rare Earth Magnets are attached to a spreader bar and lift
dolly, allowing the operator to lift and move up to a 36-inch-diameter,
heavily textured manhole cover with ease. Only one magnet is required to
lift smaller manhole covers with smooth surfaces.
