Agile, car-like truck
International
says its new CF Series trucks are being praised for their responsiveness,
handling agility, and car-like ride by customers driving test models. The
new cab-forward series is available in Class 4 trim with a 16,000-pound GVW,
and as a Class 5 truck with a 19,500-pound GVW. Both models are powered by a
200-horsepower diesel V6 with a regulated two-stage turbocharger for keeping
up with city traffic.
International
engineered the new series to have conventional truck strength to accommodate
a wide range of bodies and applications, including construction. The company
will soon announce an integrated truck body program for fast delivery.
Also standard are a five-speed automatic
transmission, 70-gallon fuel capacity, and warranty coverage that includes a
24-month unlimited mileage overall warranty, a 48-month frame warranty, and
a 36-month/150,000-mile engine warranty and towing reimbursement plan.

Higher fuel efficiency
Caterpillar
has introduced a new engine-idle software package to improve fuel efficiency
and allow operators flexibility in managing work idle speeds. Available on
Cat wheel loaders ranging from the 938G Series II to the 972G Series II, the
software comes with four idle-control settings: hibernate mode, work mode,
low-voltage mode, and warm-up mode. Factory-default idle rpm settings range
from 600 rpm in hibernate mode to 800-825 rpm (depending on model) in work
mode.

New engines for off highway
Iveco is now marketing its diesel engines to
manufacturers of off-highway equipment. Well established in on-highway truck
applications, Iveco is offering its engines for use in dozers, wheel
loaders, excavators, and other types of construction machinery. The
company’s NEF line includes 3-, 4- and 6-cylinder engines, while the Cursor
line is comprised of 6-cylinder, 24-valve engines ranging up to 493
horsepower.

All-wheel suspension option
Johnston
has rolled out a new all-wheel suspension system for its highly maneuverable
three-wheel 3000 mechanical sweeper.
Johnston says the new suspension system
enhances handling, reduces operator fatigue, and virtually eliminates shock
impact to the vehicle’s electrical system. The Johnston 3000 has a
5.6-cubic-yard hopper capacity and hydrostatic drive.

Strong climbing crawler
RexCon’s new Texture Cure 2600 machine is mounted on
two 10-foot-long, high-profile track systems with 12-inch-wide grouser pads.
The tracks are powered by a hydrostatic torque drive with integral brakes
for ease of loading and working in steep grade situations. It has four
hydraulically powered grade legs that allow 24-inch vertical height
adjustment for curing and tining concrete slabs.

New tractor-mount boom
Elliott
Equipment has rolled out an 18-ton-capacity tractor-mount boom that
allows users to carry a higher payload to the job site. The five-section
boom extends to 81-feet long and retracts to just 21 feet, allowing
operators to use a longer trailer, according to Elliott. It has a 91-foot
tip height, load moment indicator for safe boom operation, and 10% fewer
fittings than competing units.

Ultra-long-life undercarriage
Caterpillar
has developed a new undercarriage system that it claims provides unmatched
wear life and lower owning and operating costs for dozers and track loaders.
SystemOne undercarriages feature positive sealing. Parts are sealed for
life. No bushing turns are needed and most interim maintenance is
eliminated, reducing down time and maintenance costs. Cat says it also
provides a smoother ride.
In field trials prior to rollout, Cat said SystemOne
produced nearly twice the service life of a conventional undercarriage in
severe applications, and at least 50% more in other applications.
