From unusual solutions to new generation
machinery, here’s a sampling of exhibit highlights you’ll find at
asphalt’s big show this March. |
Sakai
Balanced three-wheel roller
Sakai will show its R2H three-wheel static
roller for the first time at World of Asphalt. The new 83-inch-wide
machine blends key benefits of the old three-wheel and tandem rollers
into a new concept in static compaction, according to Sakai. Unlike old
three-wheel designs, the R2H features three equal diameter drums, and
all three wheels are driven. The equal-diameter drums allow the R2H to
develop 365 pounds of force per linear inch across its 83-inch rolling
width. Water ballast can be added to vary the output force to work on
thicker lifts or soil compaction jobs. Adding drive power to all three
wheels improves traction and gradeability, and also helps pull the mix
under all three drums for blemish-free compaction, says Sakai.
Also on display will be the newest addition to
Sakai’s high-vibration-speed lineup of vibrating rollers. The new SW320
is a 47-inch-wide tandem vibratory roller capable of high-speed
compaction using 4,000-vibrations-per-minute frequency.

Roadtec
Unique spray paver takes a bow
Roadtec will display its newly announced asphalt
spray paver, the SP-200, at World of Asphalt. The new unit allows the
contractor to spray asphalt cement or emulsion directly in front of the
asphalt mix before it is laid for NovaChip applications or for
traditional paving. Spraying tack seconds before the asphalt is laid
provides a strong bond between the existing surface and the new
pavement, especially important with thin overlays, according to Roadtec.
The company says its SP-200 eliminates the need for separate tack trucks
and does away with the inconvenience of tack adhering to the tires of
other vehicles on site as is often the case when tack is sprayed before
the paver arrives.
