Testing self-consolidating concrete

Forney has been working with department of transportation leaders in the United States to develop equipment for testing self-consolidating  concrete. The Forney J-Ring Test Set (above) tests spread and restricted flow around rebar and other reinforcing structures. The set can be used in the laboratory to compare the passing ability of different mixtures or in the field for quality control testing. It can also be used at the mix design development stage or in production as a quality control method.

The Forney Column Segregation Test Set determines the degree of potential segregation of coarse aggregate in SCC mixtures. The set supplies everything necessary to conduct the test — three cylindrical sections, clamps, collector plate, screen tray, straightedge, and digital scale.

Block retaining wall

ReCon Wall Systems’ new large block retaining wall products include a 3-foot-wide block, a 2-foot-wide plinth block, a cap block, and a step block, which complement the 4-foot- and 2-foot-wide blocks they currently offer.

The plinth block protrudes 12 inches from the face of the wall; the cap block is an alternative to the top block. The blocks are made of wet-cast, air-entrained concrete with a minimum PSI of 3,000 for durability, and feature an interlocking system for easy installation.

Cement sealant

W.R. Meadows’ new Hi-Spec polymeric hot-applied sealant for portland cement is a single-component, joint sealing compound. Formulated with a blend of 100% virgin polymer, asphalt plasticizers, and inert reinforcing fillers, it produces a hot-pour joint sealant with excellent bonding properties and high resiliency, ductility, and resistance to degradation from weathering. It will not become brittle at low temperatures and will not flow or migrate from the joint at temperatures up to 140 degrees F.

Hi-Spec is recommended for large-scale sealing of joints and cracks in portland cement and asphalt concrete pavements because of its excellent cost efficiency, long sealant life, and high return on investment. The sealant is available in 50-pound containers and 55-pound cartons.

Self-leveling catch basin

The Zirga self-leveling catch basin operates with a frame that is entirely supported by the foundation of the street. The conventional concrete structure is replaced by a standard high-density polyethylene HDPE one-piece pipe designed to prevent water and granular infiltration. The smooth external wall eliminates the possibility of a bond developing between the pipe and the frozen soil. The system allows the frame to slip along the external wall of the pipe, allowing the frame to move down with the settling of the soil or up as the soil heaves during the winter. Like the pavement, the frame floats on the foundation of the street.
