Horizontal lifeline system

DBI-Sala and Protecta announced their new SecuraSpan Pour in Place Horizontal Lifeline System, a lightweight system for pour-in-place decks supported by concrete columns. The system stanchions are economical and their sleeve design ensures easy installation and adjustment, according to the manufacturer. Made of lightweight aluminum, the stanchions allow for easy portability and reuse. The anchorage rings are made of zinc-plated steel. The stanchion weighs 53 pounds and stands 7 feet, 6 inches overall. Once installed, the stanchion sits 6 feet, 6 inches off the working surface, enabling the use of self-retracting lifelines. The stanchion has a minimum breaking strength of 5,000 pounds and a capacity of 310 pounds. The stanchion and system comply with all OSHA standards.

Plastic Jersey-style barrier

Roadguard, a division of Traffic Safety Devices, introduced their new Roadguard/2 water-ballasted, energy-absorbing plastic barrier. The company says it’s the first portable Jersey-style barrier to be manufactured by the blow-molding process, using high-density polyethylene plastic. The barrier is 6-feet long, 3.5-feet high, 2-feet wide at the bottom, and 10-inches wide at the top. Its double chamber provides two vertical walls in the center for strength and stability. When empty, the 80-pound barrier is easy to handle and deploy; when filled with water, the barrier weighs 1,600 pounds. Other features include a patented self-locking device; two fill holes at the top; four drains at the bottom; four handgrips; and slots and channels for lights, flashers, panels, screens, and signs.

Graffiti protection

Integument Technologies’ new FluoroGrip fluoropolymer films provide protection against graffiti on a variety of surfaces including steel, concrete, glass, and more. The peel-and-stick clear films are easy to use and install. The patented plasma surface modification process creates a permanent, chemical covalent bond between the film and adhesive while retaining full transparency. The bond withstands a variety of stresses such as extreme temperature cycling, UV rays, and aggressive chemicals. The film provides anti-corrosion protection, as well as protection from paints, acids, dirt, and grime.

Digital salometers

Misco says theirs are the first-ever Digital Salometers to provide accuracy and efficiency when measuring the percent saturation and freeze point of sodium chloride salt-brine solutions. The salometer is floated in a graduated cylinder containing salt brine; a reading is taken at the point at which the surface of the fluid crosses the analog scale; the temperature must then be read with a thermometer followed by a manual temperature correction of the reading. The digital salometer removes the subjectivity associated with analog salometers. Two models are available: one for readings in degrees Fahrenheit and one for degrees Celsius.

Road trench drain

In September, ACO Polymer Products will introduce a new system of trench drain products engineered for surface drainage on highways, urban roads, and bridges. The ACO Road family of products includes TraffikDrain, a trench drain system that is installed on the side of the road running parallel with the flow of traffic. It has grates with large liquid intake slots and a smooth internal polymer concrete cavity, allowing the system to quickly collect and evacuate stormwater to eliminate flooding. TraffikDrain can withstand loadings of fast-moving vehicles due to its integrally cast-in rail and secured ductile iron grates. The company says the system is easy to install and maintain, causing only minimal disruption or road closure.

Pavement saw

The new CS-7060 walk-behind pavement saw from Stow, a division of Multiquip, features stay-level handles that remain level regardless of the saw’s operating position. The handles, coupled with the saw’s moving center of gravity, minimize operator fatigue and reduce the risk of back injury while boosting productivity, according to the company. The saw has a 36-inch blade capacity, a maximum cutting depth of 15 inches, and weighs 1,725 pounds. It features a patent-pending clutchless bladeshaft disengaging system — the flick of a switch can stop or start the bladeshaft rotation while the engine is running. A vibration control mounting system cuts handlebar vibration and related injuries and extends component life.
