Oscillating steel-drum roller
Hamm’s new HD090V oscillatory/ vibratory roller uses a vibratory drum
in front and an oscillating steel drum in the rear to achieve faster, more
effective compaction, according to the company. The oscillating system uses
dual eccentric weights rotating in the same direction around the drum axis
to achieve what Hamm calls “a rocking motion.” In contrast to
conventional vibratory drums, which move up and down, the company says its
oscillating drum creates horizontal and downward shear forces that achieve
greater compaction, even in low temperature ranges. Because the rear drum
does not “bounce” like a vibratory drum, says Hamm, the surface of the
mat is smooth and flat. Hamm is the compaction division of Wirtgen.

New 12.5-ton high-frequency roller
Dynapac has
extended its line of high-frequency asphalt compactors with the introduction
of the CC622HF, a 27,783-pound, 84-inch-wide roller that provides a
vibration frequency of 3,780 vibrations per minute at low amplitude (0.008
inches), and 3,060 vpm at high amplitude (0.024 inches). The machine uses
55-inch drums. Dynapac markets four other high-frequency models with drum
widths from 57 to 77 inches.

New production-class paver
LeeBoy
has expanded its line of asphalt pavers with the introduction of the 8815, a
25,000-pound, 130-horsepower, track-mounted paver designed for road and
large commercial applications. The new machine employs LeeBoy’s vibrating,
heated Legend Screed system and a 10-ton receiving hopper. Standard features
include independent auger and conveyor control, patented under-auger cut-off
plates, and 14-inch variable- speed augers. The screed is hydraulically
extendible from 8 to 15 feet. Operator features include dual operator
stations, electric-over-hydraulic controls, and proportional electronic
steering.

Dump trailer has three-way door
Tow Boy has introduced a new line of dump trailers that feature three-way
doors. The doors can be folded to the side or pivoted bottom-out for
dumping, or they can pivot top down to form a loading ramp. The units come
with a heavy-duty winch. They are available with tandem or triple axles and
in weight ratings up to 21,000 GVW. Beds come in sizes from 60- to 82-inches
wide and 10- to 16-feet long. They are available as goosenecks or
bumper-hitch designs.

Convert an excavator to a crane
Kenco’s
newest excavator attachment is a telescoping crane boom that replaces the
excavator’s boom, using the host machine’s existing boom supports,
cylinders, and pins. The hydraulically powered, telescopic crane booms come
in two or three section models, with reach ranging from 40 to 80 feet and
load capacities from 40,000 to 80,000 pounds. Kenco offers the crane
conversion as a kit or installed in the company’s own factory.

16-ton compactor for thick lifts
Ingersoll-Rand
says its new 16-ton, single-drum SD-160 compactor was designed for thick
lift application such as developing new road bases, dams, and embankments.
It is available with a smooth drum for granular soils or with a padfoot
roller for cohesive soils. The 160DX model can be converted from smooth drum
to padfoot with an optional kit. The 84-inch-wide models develop more than
76,000 pounds of centrifugal force.

French company rethinks the stabilizer
One
of the biggest show stoppers at the Intermat show in Paris this year was a
new-generation soil stabilizer from the French company Panien. Powered by a
525-horsepower engine, the 21-metric-ton machine has a maximum working width
of 8 feet and a maximum depth of 21 inches. Its front-mounted cab was
designed for exceptional spaciousness, quiet, and climate-controlled
comfort, according to Panien. It has two operator stations, electrically
operated side-view mirrors, and camera monitors inside the mixing chamber,
at the cutter edge, and at the rear of the machine for backing up safely. In
addition to a climate-control system, the cab is prewired for a hands-free
phone and an icebox and food compartment. Panien does not yet export the
machine to North America. For more information, see the company’s Web
site, www.panien.com.

Economical crack-sealing line debuts
Cimline
has introduced a new line of direct-fire melters for economical gravity-feed
crack sealing. The HeatWave Series offers models in 30-, 90-, and 115-gallon
capacities. Each model has a tube-fired heating system with two heavy-duty
single-pass flues and a unique spigot system that has a lockout feature and
a positive valve closure. The HW 30 is designed for small jobs and can be
ordered with a wheel kit; the HW 90 is typically skid-mounted and used for
medium-sized jobs; the HW 115 is a trailer-mounted model designed for larger
pavement maintenance projects.

Eight amplitude choices
Ingersoll-Rand has
added an 84-inch-wide model to its high-frequency line of tandem asphalt
rollers. The IR DD-125HF double-drum machine employs IR’s patented
eight-amplitude system and a vibration frequency of 3,200 vibrations per
minute. It weighs 28,043 pounds and develops up to 35,190 pounds of
amplitude. Standard features include chamfered, radiused drum edges to
prevent seam imprinting, a patented impact meter measuring the number of
impacts per foot, and a vibrations system designed to minimize the size of
the bow wave in front of each drum in order to produce a smoother surface.

Increases tool space
Stellar is offering the 1184 Interchange module to fit its 1184 tire
service body instead of a crane. The module allows the user to add 23 cubic
feet of tool storage and place the compressor above deck. It can be swapped
out for a Stellar crane at any time.

Multi-featured telescoping crane
Auto Crane
says its new 3203 Series telescoping cranes have standard features never
before found on cranes in its 10,000 foot/pound class. The four-model line
features electric-over-hydraulic controls, 30-foot-per-minute line pull
speed using a hoist that completely eliminates brake slippage, according to
the company. Two models come standard with the extension cylinder built into
the boom, reducing the number of external hydraulic hoses and cylinder
exposure.

Color your own mulch
Morbark
has announced a dry colorant processing system for its tub grinders. Using
an inexpensive dispenser attachment, the system produces premium colored
mulch at a fraction of the cost of conventional methods, according to the
company. Using powder rather than liquid dyes, the system is said to use
less water and is not affected by variations in the moisture content of wood
products.

New breaker rides low
Breaker Technologies has designed a low-profile rockbreaker system for
aggregate and recycling plants. Because of its low profile, the MBS Series
models can remain on the plant for transportation, saving hours of setup
time compared to conventional booms that must be removed from the plant or
permanently mounted on a separate trailer. The MBS design allows the boom to
be lowered flat onto the feeder, below the height of the flywheel, for
transportation.
