Concrete vibrators
Multiquip’s new user-friendly MGX-Series concrete vibrators are lightweight
handheld units with exceptional power ideal for short pours, small walls,
and footings. The vibrators are offered in two models with six head sizes
ranging from 0.9 to 1.5 inches; frequencies span from 200 to 15,500
vibrations per minute. The durable, 280-watt MGX-1 and MGX-2 models each
weigh only 6.4 pounds. They are available with hose lengths up to 6.6 feet
and come with an easy-to-use quick-coupling system for flexible shafts.

Work management software
Tracker Software’s new addition to its work
management software package provides entities charged with public
infrastructure — roads, bridges, and more — with all the bells and whistles
to track capital, operational, and maintenance costs. The GIS-compatible
system also provides for project estimating, work maintenance history,
resident service requests, and GASB34 reporting capabilities. The new
program integrates seamlessly with existing road maintenance software.

Safety harness
Miller’s new Revolution Harness is designed for
greater safety as well as comfort for the wearer. Fit, ease-of-use, style,
durability, compliance, flexibility, and convenience were all considered in
its design. The PivotLink has a unique rotary design that provides greater
comfort in bending and mobility. The Integrated Accessory System is a
modular attachment design that provides connection points for belts, tools,
and accessories. The easy, one-hand adjustment/release of the Cam Buckle
allows simultaneous adjustment of the shoulder straps. The semi-flexible
ErgoArmor Back Shield minimizes impact from sharp/heavy snap hooks and
self-retracting lifelines. The DualTech Webbing is two-sided, with a soft,
supple nylon against the body and a durable, chemical-resistant polyester on
the outside.

Portable light towers
Allmand’s new portable light towers, the Maxi-Lite
15330 and 20330, are designed with 15- and 20-kilowatt AVR generators which
deliver enough energy for temporary work trailers, pumps or additional
lighting, and can power a variety of auxiliary equipment. The new galvanized
steel tower features durability and corrosion protection. If a galvanized
surface is scratched, the coating will expand to protect the damaged area
from corrosion. The towers generate up to 50% more lumens per fixture than
competitive light towers, providing up to 7,500 watts. Rotating 360 degrees,
the towers adjust easily from the ground to meet the needs of the
application.

Portable snowmelter
The
Trecan 60 PD portable snowmelter can melt 60 tons of snow per hour. The unit
has a draw bar towing arrangement and a standard 10-foot-wide carbon steel
melting tank with snow-loading access from the back end. An extra-wide tank
is available with a 12-foot opening. Overall machine length is 25 feet, 3
inches; maximum height is 12 feet, 4.5 inches; loading height is 8 feet, 2
inches.

Electric-powered recycler
Bandit
Industries’ Beast Recyclers can now be equipped with an electric power
unit built to withstand the shock loads often encountered in waste reduction
applications. An electric motor costs less to own and operate and requires
less maintenance, according to the company. The recyclers are available in
four sizes: the 2680 with a 24- by 60-inch opening; the 3680 with a 30- by
60-inch opening; the 4680 with a 45- by 60-inch opening; and the 5680 with a
massive 50- by 60-inch opening. Applications include asphalt, trees, brush,
and more.

Fine calcium carbonate
Omya Canada recently introduced Betocarb, a fine
calcium carbonate for the concrete industry. The product has been used
extensively in Europe for 20 years for such applications as ready-mix,
precast, shotcrete, and self-compacting concrete. Advantages of using
Betocarb include improvement in green strength up to 40% with type 1 cement;
better fluidity of the mix; better workability; improved finishes;
resistance to deicing salts and corrosion resistance in steel-reinforced
concrete; reduced segregation; and more. The product is available in bulk,
bags, or supersacs. Constancy of the product is guaranteed.

Automated cone truck
Traf-tech’s
new fully-automated cone truck can be run by a single in-cab operator. The
ACT240 is a standard 14-foot model that holds 240 standard 28-inch, 10-pound
cones and can distribute and collect from both sides of the truck. Cone
distribution is computer controlled and has three adjustable interval
presets.

Hearing protection system
The
Sonomax Solution, a hearing protection system from Bayer MaterialScience,
combines in-ear hearing protection and computer acoustic technologies. The
high-tech earplugs are injection molded from hypoallergenic silicone; the
cord connecting the plugs is made from Texin 285 resin. The system is
customized to block out sounds loud enough to cause hearing loss, but still
allow the worker to hear speech and other important sounds.

Carbonation detection kit
Gilson’s
carbonation detection kit provides a quick, simple field method of
determining the extent of carbonation in concrete structures such as
bridges. The HM-261 Kit includes an 8-ounce bottle of indicating solution,
spray attachment, protective gloves, instruction, and MSDS sheets packaged
in a durable plastic case for field use. The indicating solution is applied
to a concrete surface freshly exposed by fracturing or coring. Uncarbonated
areas immediately react with a bright pink permanent stain, uncolored areas
suggest the presence of carbonation. The depth of carbonation can be
approximated visually; estimating the rate of carbonation penetration by
knowing the existing depth of carbonation and the age of the concrete.

Spreader chain/box treatment
Rhomar
developed a new spreader chain and box encapsulant which solves the problem
of storing deicer/anti-icer spreaders during the off season without rusting.
In the spring, Lubra-Seal encapsulates chains and
spreader boxes for protection from rain, dew, and the elements. It dries to
a flexible polymer skin, blocking out the oxygen needed to cause rust and
corrosion. In the fall, an application plates the internal pinions, reducing
wear and fatigue and extending chain life.
