LED in-pavement lighting system
A new linear, encapsulated LED lighting system from
HIL-Tech can be used for pedestrian crossings or to increase road safety and
efficiencies by creating highly visible in-pavement markings, symbols, and signs.
The LEDline is visible in just about any weather and can help guide
motorists at night and in severe weather conditions. It can be induction
powered and connected (so there is no hard wiring), or DC powered for
barriers and signs. The 15.75-inch-long by 1.2-inch-wide by 0.75-inch deep
solid plastic unit comes in a semi-directional or omni-directional format.
According to the company, the unit is snowplowable, weather resistant,
corrosion proof, submersible, vandal resistant, and versatile.

Roadside timing analysis
MetroCount USA’s new two-channel Timing Analysis
Roadside units (inset) are used for detailed analysis of signalized
intersections, pedestrian crossings, and rail crossings. Installed at the
crossings and interfaced with the signals, the units record traffic data on
one channel and signal changes on the other. The MC5711 and MC5712 gather
time-stamped axle data for every vehicle on one channel using two air tubes
spaced 3 feet apart. The other channel simultaneously logs the signal
phases. Used in conjunction with Traffic Executive’s MCReport software, you
can analyze the speed, vehicle type, headway, gap, and more of every vehicle
entering the intersection, all relative to the signal phases.

Ditch-lining system
Penda’s SmartDitch is a corrugated, plastic
ditch-lining system designed to remedy problems such as long lead times,
costly installation, and deterioration. The ditch liner can be placed above
ground or in existing unlined or concrete-lined ditches. Its trapezoidal,
8-foot, sectional design is lightweight, yet durable, and is constructed
from thermoformed plastic tested to last more than 20 years. The ditch liner
is available in black, green, brown, and tan.

Handheld breakers
A new line of hydraulic handheld breakers from
Atlas Copco offers a high power-to-weight ratio. Nine models span five different
weight classes. The heaviest of the four standard breakers is the 71-pound
LH 39 delivering 110 foot-pounds of blow energy at an average impact rate of
1,275 blows per minute. The LH 27 produces 81 foot-pounds at 1,500 blows per
minute; the LH 22 produces 62.7 foot-pounds at 1,740 blows per minute; and
the LH 18 produces 48 foot-pounds at 1,600 blows per minute. Each model has
a slim design that provides a clear view for the operator and is equipped
with basic vibration dampening.
More ergonomically advanced versions of each model
are available with four-spring E-handles that further reduce vibration
levels. A lightweight horizontal pick-hammer breaker is also available that
delivers 18.4 foot-pounds of blow energy at 2,400 blows per minute.

Enhanced field service
Tennant has equipped 370 of its field service
representatives in the U.S. with ServiceLink, a technology solution that
will improve in-field service and support. The representatives now have
in-vehicle laptops and printers that provide immediate access to customer
records, repair orders, pricing, and parts availability, ensuring that
service calls are efficient and customer costs are low. Tennant expected to
have its Canadian field service representatives equipped with ServiceLink
last month, and globally by the end of 2007.

Steel-frame building
According to
Cover-All Building Systems, their new
steel-frame, fabric-membrane building design boasts a cleaner exterior
design, unique shape, and lower roof line. It comes in sizes from 30- to
70-feet wide and in any length. The outer straight-leg design provides a
high straight wall for more interior usable space. Its steel trusses are
constructed of rectangular steel tubing using round structural webbing to
brace the inner and outer chords to provide a strong building that meets all
Canadian and U.S. building codes. The fabric membrane allows natural light
inside the building. There are no poles or posts, providing maximum
unobtrusive space. The company says a typical building can be installed in
weeks.

Large tub grinder
Morbark says their Model 1600 tub grinder is capable
of grinding up to 10-foot stumps at a high production rate. The nearly
6-foot hammermill was designed to support the tub’s production rate and
operating efficiency. Base diameter measures 11 feet, 2 inches, with a tub
capacity of 20 cubic yards.
With a 22-hammer pattern, the unit quickly
grinds landfill material, mixed debris, and large chunks of wood. The
discharge system has been beefed up to match the high production rate and
includes a 60-inch-wide belt. The unit’s steel three-auger system eliminates
damage from steel contamination and provides a pressure sensor that will
stop the tub if the augers become overloaded.

Hydraulic rebar benders
Multiquip’s Jimmy hydraulic rebar benders let
contractors precisely shape #4 to #11 rebar on the worksite. The seven
models in the series allow the operator to bend rebar up to 180 degrees. The
portable units range in weight from 22 to 110 pounds and are compact in
design, allowing simple bending in space-restricted environments. All seven
models use an ACI-approved bending wheel to deliver accurate bends.
Simplified caisson and column construction let the operator quickly remove
the collar from a column base.
