Valve/tank assemblies
Two new valve/tank assemblies are now available from
Force America. The VT15 and VT35 (above) combine the valve enclosure and
tank into one easy-to-install assembly — all components are under one
rubber, latched cover. The removable cover allows for easy maintenance while
ensuring the longevity of the system components. The VT15 was designed to
fit 1-ton frames and larger, making it ideal for light- and medium-duty
applications. The VT35 was designed to fit larger truck frames, making it
ideal for medium- and heavy-duty applications.

Rubber adjusting ring
The solid-rubber adjusting ring from
American
Highway Products installs under the utility casting on new construction or
rehab of existing utilities. It replaces pre-cast concrete or mortar donuts
and provides a water-tight seal that lasts for years. Because it is made
from rubber, it performs like a weight-bearing pad on bridges, eliminating
traffic vibration which deteriorates the cement substructure of the utility.
Tapered sizes allow perfect adjustment to the road crown or slope.

3-D mapping of underground utilities
Geophysical Survey Systems’ new
ground-penetrating-radar utility detection system, TerraVision, makes it
easy to collect three-
dimensional data in a single pass while providing
automatic target and pipe recognition. The system features a data-collection
speed of 5 miles per hour and can process a mile of data in under 10
minutes. Post Processing Software includes RADAN 5.0 and 3-D QuickDraw. The
system allows all post-processing to be done in the field. The system has a
14-antenna array and 6-foot-wide survey path.

Concrete rider saw
The new RS 8500 D Rider Saw from Dimas, a division
of Electrolux Construction Products, has a 26-inch blade capacity for large
jobs where reduced operator fatigue and consistent production rates are
demanded. The combination of the 85-horsepower diesel engine, the new inline
right angle gearbox, and 14 V-belts gives the saw extra horsepower at the
blade shaft. Alignment is easy with the power-assisted, zero-turn-radius
steering. A new, tilting steering console improves operator comfort, while
the fold-up pointer and optional blade clutch make loading and unloading
easier. The saw comes equipped with larger front wheels and a parking brake.

Bridge inspection and analysis
Geophysical Survey Systems’ BridgeScan, a complete
and convenient cart-based GPR system for bridge inspection and analysis,
uses the SIR-3000 data acquisition system and 1.5-GHz antenna to locate
rebar in concrete or asphalt overlaid bridge decks. The system enables the
user to identify areas of bridge deck deterioration as well as concrete
cover depth and asphalt overlay thickness. The affordable, easy-to-use
system provides users with an effective tool for quickly determining the
condition of aging bridge decks as well as new construction or repair work.
By switching antennas, the system is able to
transform into the UtilityScan system for locating pipes and other
underground utilities. The system includes the SIR-3000 data acquisition
system, survey cart with encoder, 1.5-GHz ground-coupled antenna, RADAN
software with the Bridge Assessment Module, and system accessories. Training
is available.

Concrete repair product
Roadware 10 Minute Concrete Mender penetrates deep
into cracks and creates a structural repair in just 10 minutes at 70 degrees
F. This hybrid polyurethane uses ultra-low viscosity and surface tension to
penetrate concrete faster than water without the excessive solvents
associated with other low-viscosity polymers. The combination of these two
properties creates incredible bond strength, load transfer, and durability.
This effect, called microdoweling, bonds concrete slabs back together with
billions of microscopic carbon chains that actually lock the aggregate and
cement within concrete materials back together. Repairs may be made at all
temperatures from -30 to 120 degrees F.

Storm drain markers
Almetek Industries is now offering a full line of
storm drain markers used to provide warning that items dumped into storm
drains flow directly into area waterways. The markers are affixed to storm
drain inlets and street gutter catch basins to remind people that only storm
water should enter these inlets that connect roads and parking lots to local
water. Available in 11 forms, each marker features the phrase No Dumping and
warns where the drain leads. Stock circular designs are available in
diameters ranging from 4 to 8 inches. Custom shapes, sizes, and artwork are
also available.

Water/gas valve riser
American Highway Products’ new water/gas valve riser
streamlines the adjusting of utilities to new grades when paving a road. Its
compression design ensures a pressed-in-bearing fit that enables
installation before paving. The riser is compressed during installation;
residual stress holds it in place. Risers start at 0.5-inch rise and go up
in 0.125-inch increments.

Precision controls
JCB says the new Precision Control System for its
backhoe loaders uses the same technology found on the company’s excavators.
The hydraulic-over-hydraulic, servo-control system emulates the feel and
control of a direct link system but with minimum operator effort. The system
is activated by locking the operator’s seat in the rear position or by a
mode switch. The operator then controls the backhoe using low-effort,
seat-mounted joysticks.
