High-performance adhesion additives

Unique Paving Materials Corporation has added Hot Mix Pavement Modifier to its line of high-performance products. HPM is specially formulated to increase the effectiveness and long-term performance of asphalt pavements by dramatically improving adhesion and increasing the tensile strength ration of the mix, eliminating many common stripping problems. The hot-mix liquid is evenly distributed throughout the asphalt mix in a relatively small amount and works by chemically enhancing the attraction of the oil-based asphalt to the water-based aggregates in the cement mixture.

Road surface information system

Traffic Technology 2000’s Advanced Road Surface Information System sends a warning/alarm to winter road maintenance crews and/or other personnel in the event of potentially hazardous weather conditions. At the same time, a message sign can alert the motoring public of the changing road conditions. The system reduces accidents, provides better resource management of material and labor, has flexibility, and is reasonably priced with low-cost installation.

Light towers

Multiquip’s two new GloBug light towers provide glare-free light, are lightweight, illuminate 360 degrees to distances in excess of 150 feet, and are ideal for shedding light on construction jobsites. The towers are offered as a stand-alone unit or with a cart for an optional generator, have maximum mast heights of 13 feet and 16.5 feet, and come standard with a water-resistant balloon.

The standard GloBug, with optional generator (shown), weighs 243 pounds and features a quick disconnect power cable, lifting hook for easy transportation, and pneumatic tires. The stand-alone tower weighs 139 pounds, is fitted with five counterweighted outriggers for stabilization, and comes with a 30-inch extension pole on its three-stage mast.

Pothole repair

Garon’s Hy-Speed 500 instant concrete in a can repairs potholes without costly downtime. Simply add water to the product, mix, then pour like syrup into the hole. In one hour, the repair cement becomes a concrete-hard mass ready for traffic. It expands as it sets, locking in a permanent patch three times the strength of ordinary concrete. It needs no priming, leveling, or troweling.

Barricade system

The Safe-Hit Division of Energy Absorption Systems, a subsidiary of Quixote Transportation Safety, introduced its Barracuda Barricade System, a highly portable and crashworthy barricade specially suited to continuously define the boundaries of a workzone, clearly define lane closures and merges, and physically discourage pedestrian entry and cross through. Advantages include a heavy-duty tri-beam design for extreme durability, a wide flat top for stacking and efficient storage, energy-absorbing (when ballasted) for safer vehicle deceleration, and robust four-knuckle interlocks for seamless channelization guidance. The Barracuda is crashworthy and has been tested to the NCHRP 350 TL-2 Longitudinal Channelizing Barricade testing procedures.

Erosion-control blanket

Profile Products’ new Futerra F4 Netless Erosion Control and Revegetation Blanket provides superior erosion control and seed germination without the netting that can entangle wildlife or maintenance equipment. Futerra uses a refined thermal extrusion process that eliminates the need for netting and offers greater dimensional stability, weighs less, and is easier to install than its netted predecessor. The blanket provides superior erosion control by bonding to the soil surface to prevent washouts and seed migration for up to one year.
