Drop hammer breaks concrete

Bobcat has unveiled a new drop hammer attachment that allows a skid-steer loader to break concrete slabs up to 18-inches deep with less noise and vibration than a hydraulic hammer. The unit employs a 1,140-pound weight which is lifted by means of a chain and drive motor, then dropped. The company says it exerts low vibration and little noise. Attaching and detaching is said to be easy with the Bob-Tach mounting system, and the detached unit can stand upright independently, eliminating the need for additional equipment to lift or move it.

Faster melting times

Cimline has improved the melting times and heating uniformity of its two largest HeatWave Melters by equipping them with a unique auger-type sealant agitator powered by a 4-horsepower engine. The feature is available in the line’s 90-gallon and 115-gallon crack sealing models.

Factory dump trucks

Dump truck body manufacturer Heil Environmental and Sterling Truck have created a partnership that will allow customers to buy Sterling’s medium-duty Acterra chassis with a Heil 10-foot DuraClass SL dump body installed at the Sterling factory. Heil says the partnership streamlines the purchasing process and gives the buyer a “competitive package price.” Buyers can choose from three Class 6 and 7 chassis specifications, and two body specifications.

 Premium batch control system

BMG Seltec’s new AB500 Premium asphalt batch-control system is comprised of integrated software and hardware components that, the company claims, automate the entire batching and discharge process and set new standards for simplicity and performance. The new system is said to cost 20% less than previous batch-control systems. BMG Seltec also claims the system offers a smaller, cleaner, more compact enclosure, with more accurate bin pulls, fewer jogs, and shorter batching times than ever before.

Maneuverable street sweeper

Johnston Sweeper has expanded its line of street sweepers with the introduction of the new MS/MT350. The new model is said to have outstanding maneuverability. It features a 4.4-cubic-yard hopper and is mounted on a commercially available truck chassis. It has dual steering controls and operating positions and direct hydraulic broom drive.

New over-tire tracks

John Deere is offering its own brand of over-the-tire rubber tracks for the company’s 200 and 300 Series skid-steer loaders. The new tracks enhance flotation and traction and are recommended for soft and muddy ground conditions, and on turf, asphalt, and concrete surfaces which might be damaged by steel tracks.

Company representatives say that a skid steer with rubber tracks delivers performance similar to a compact track loader, but at a lower cost.

On-the-go screening

JCI has collaborated with its sister company, Kolberg-Pioneer, to offer two new track-mounted, site-mobile horizontal screens, the Fast Trax Series 6’ x 20’, and the FT 5’ x 16’. The units feature a rear-feed hopper configuration that allows the plant to be fed with a loader or excavator, or the rear hopper wall can be removed to allow a track-mounted primary plant to feed the screen plant directly. An end delivery conveyor can feed directly into another track plant or create a large stockpile; side discharge conveyors allow 10-foot stockpile heights.

On-the-go pavement recycling

Kolberg-Pioneer is targeting road contractors as well as aggregate producers with its new Fast Trax line of track-mounted crushing and screening plants. The latest additions to the line are the FT 2650 jaw crusher, the FT 4250 horizontal shaft impact crusher, and FT apron feeder. The Fast Trax line also includes track-mounted impact crushers and horizontal screens.

The Fast Trax machinery is designed to move with a highway demolition crew, crushing and screening as it goes. The company says this mobility leads to dramatic cost-efficiencies compared to other methods of pavement recycling, especially if the crushed concrete or asphalt is used for base material on the same job.

The FT 4250 horizontal shaft impactor can be driven off its transport trailer and start crushing concrete immediately, says Kolberg-Pioneer. It can crush on the go and windrow material. With an optional vibrating screen package, it can produce up to three products simultaneously. A 400-horsepower diesel with hydraulic controls powers the entire plant: feeder, crusher, on-board conveyors, vibrating screen, and optional cross belt magnet and tracks.

For jobs requiring a jaw crusher, the FT 2650 plant weighs 105,000 pounds and is powered by a 250-horsepower diesel. The plant can produce up to 300 tons per hour in hard rock or recycling applications.

Also new from Kolberg-Pioneer is the track mounted FT Apron Feeder, which is described as a mine-quality machine designed for extreme operating conditions. Recommended for wet, sticky materials in particular, the apron feeder provides positive feed action while reducing material slippage.

International Truck formally introduced what it bills as the world’s largest pickup truck last fall. The International CXT combines the chassis of an International Severe Service truck used by contractors and agencies for dump trucks and snow plows with a spacious crew cab design that seats five comfortably. International says it hauls three times the payload of consumer pickups. It features all-wheel drive and air brakes, and has towing, dumping, and tilt-bed capabilities.
