Slipforms new lane additions

Power Pavers’ new SF 2700 two-track paver is shown here on an interstate highway project last summer in Little Rock, Arkansas. The paver was used to slipform five 24-foot-wide lane additions and two 8-foot shoulders. The project called for 11 inches of concrete pavement; the unit has the ability to pour up to 16 inches.

The 2500 features an independently controlled, split, dual-auger system that Power Pavers says gives it the ability to spread concrete mix quickly and evenly. It can pour roads up to 32-feet wide with extensions, and the company says it changes width quickly.

Grader-mounted pneumatic compactor

The PR30-8 Pneumatic Compactor attachment from Mountain West Attachments mounts quickly on the outside ripper shank pockets of a motor grader to provide kneading-action compaction for maintaining gravel roads and in compacting asphalt overlays in applications where it is cost prohibitive to transport a self-propelled pneumatic roller.

Weighing about 2,700 pounds, the unit has eight foam-filled, 14-ply, 30-inch paving tires mounted on alloy axle segments. The host machine’s ripper hydraulics provide down-pressure during compaction and lift the attachment off the ground when it is not needed. The unit rotates on two dust-sealed, extreme-service flange bearings.

New shear tip lasts longer

Stanley LaBounty is now offering a longer-lasting piercing tip for its MSD 50-200 Mobile Shear models. The company says the new tips look exactly like the ones they replace, but a new, proprietary heat-treatment process used in their manufacture significantly extends the working life of the new units. The new tips carry a 37% price premium, but Stanley LaBounty says field tests have shown they last 3 to 5 times longer, reducing ownership and operating costs by requiring less maintenance and downtime.

New pavers get a power boost

The new 500 Series Tier 2 pavers from Terex Roadbuilding’s Cedarapids Paving feature a 40% increase in horsepower for more efficiency in driving Remix systems, electric screeds, drive systems, and full-width paving applications up to 30 feet. The series includes the 552 rubber tire model, and the 562 rubber-track and steel track models.

In addition, hopper load bearing capabilities have been boosted on the 552, giving it the same 25-ton capacity available in the 562 models. Cedarapids says the 552 has the largest rear drive tire in the industry, giving it exceptional tractive effort, flotation, and stability.

Telehandler gets more power

Ingersoll-Rand’s new VR-1056C telescopic material handler boasts more power and better operator control than the model it replaces, according to the company. The improvements stem from a new engine and upgraded hydraulics. The machine has a 56-foot lift height and 40.5-foot forward reach, tops in the 10,000-pound class, according to the company. It also features Ingersoll-Rand’s patented rear axle stabilization system which allows operators to extend the boom to its fullest reach without stabilizer deployment. It carries 6,000 pounds to 56 feet with stabilizers and 4,000 feet to the top with no stabilizers.

Eight amplitude choices

Ingersoll-Rand has added an 84-inch-wide model to its high-frequency line of tandem asphalt rollers. The IR DD-125HF double-drum machine employs IR’s patented eight-amplitude system and a vibration frequency of 3,200 vibrations per minute. It weighs 28,043 pounds and develops up to 35,190 pounds of amplitude. Standard features include chamfered, radiused drum edges to prevent seam imprinting, a patented impact meter measuring the number of impacts per foot, and a vibrations system designed to minimize the size of the bow wave in front of each drum in order to produce a smoother surface.

All-wheel-steer loaders debut

Gehl has introduced a three-model line of all-wheel-steer loaders representing an operating load range of 3,278 to 5,150 pounds. The smallest model weighs 9,480 pounds, uses a 58-horsepower diesel engine and carries a standard 1.1-cubic yard bucket. The largest model weighs 16,500 pounds, has an 82-horsepower engine, and has a 1.5-cubic yard bucket as standard equipment. In addition to maneuverability, Gehl says a unique advantage to all-wheel-steer loaders is that their center of gravity does not change during the steering cycle, so load capacities are not affected while turning.

All three units have four-wheel hydrostatic drive, pilot-operated joystick controls, and a self-leveling parallel lift boom design. An optional telescopic boom provides up to 60 inches of forward reach.
