The People track will offer five sessions that focus on the important skills necessary to manage and coach personnel to their maximum performance. The seven Plants track sessions will have experts discuss how to evaluate and improve plant performance to keep the plant operating at peak levels. The largest of the seminars, the Paving track, helps attendees learn important techniques for constructing safe and smooth quality pavements with optimum efficiency and for enhanced profitability. Nineteen sessions are offered, two of which are available with Spanish language interpretation. Last, but not least, is the Safety Track with an offering of four sessions. Presenters will discuss the latest innovations and strategies used to keep crews and plant operators safe.
Asphalt Pavement Conference The theme for the Asphalt Pavement Conference, which takes place on Monday, March 13 and Tuesday, March 14, in conjunction with the World of Asphalt, will be Environmental Innovations in Asphalt. The conference will be a showcase for new technology and industry best practices and provide a cutting-edge forum for researchers, designers, materials suppliers, and contractors. Conference topics will target paving professionals in the public and private sectors, demonstrating ways to design and build asphalt pavements with improved environmental features such as the elimination of stormwater runoff, reduced emissions, increased recycling, and noise reduction. Four separate sessions will cover a wide variety of hot topics for today. Session 1: Porous Pavements will cover the appropriate use for porous pavements, design considerations, performance, and construction. Crucial to manage stormwater runoff, porous pavements allow water to drain through the pavement into a uniformly graded stone bed with high, 40% voids. There, the runoff is temporarily stored until it can infiltrate the soil below. Not only does porous pavement control and reduce the total volume of runoff, it can eliminate the need for detention basins. Session 2: Warm Mix Asphalt will take a look at the components that make warm-mix asphalt an environmentally friendly product, as well as the FHWA perspective. New technologies are being developed and evaluated to minimize production and paving temperatures. Benefits include reduced emissions, less energy consumption, decreased odors, and a better work environment. Session 3: Recycling will discuss the processing of reclaimed asphalt pavements for increased usage, mix design, agency perspectives, and cold-in-place recycling. The asphalt paving workforce is the number one recycler in the U.S., reusing about 80% (73 million tons annually) of asphalt removed from jobsites. Discover the best practices and latest technology available for recycling. Session 4: Noise will cover how noise is measured and perceived, the FHWA perspective, findings from Arizona and California investigations of the effect of pavement type on noise, and mix design issues. Noise generated by traffic is an increasingly important issue for road designers, especially in urban areas. Presenters will include contractors, agencies, and researchers all selected for their knowledge and presentation skills. Plenty of time will be allowed for questions and answers during each session. Certificates of attendance, which may be used as documentation of Professional Development Hours, will be awarded to all attendees. |
