flail mower
The brontosaurus is one of the most popular dinosaurs, and its well known that
the creatures were vegetation eaters. But John Brown & Sons, Inc.s Brontosaurus, shown above, is a
vegetation demolisher. Its a drum flail mower designed to work best from the
articulated boom of an excavator rubber-tired or tracked with 360-degree
swing capabilities (the ideal being 14,000- to 45,000-lb. excavators). Though not as
speedy as conventional rotary mowers on four-wheel tractors, the Brown Brontosaurus has
the ability to leave a clean and tidy work site with inherent safety operation.
The Brontosaurus really shines in DOT and railroad brush control. The company says that
comments from engineers and professionals all across the country are the same: Its
safer than other methods, leaves a clean work site, and creates uniformly sized chips that
leave work areas looking like there have been chips spread along the road side. These
chips weather and decompose so that, a few weeks later, the grass and ferns grow up
through the chips with no ugly stumps and stubble.
The other feature is safety. The drum flail principle of the mower head causes debris
to be thrown downward, not out to the side like rotary blade mowers. An operator can mow
day after day along highways, going with the flow of traffic, and practically all the
chips and debris fall to the right hand side and to the ground. With the 25- to 30-ft.
reach of the most common carriers, branches and tree tops that grow up as visual
obstructions to highway signs can be topped to a more ideal height, or selectively cut and
mulched to ground level.

Limb cutter
Alamo Industrial has designed the BuzzBar Tree Limb Cutter as an alternative to the
old-fashioned chainsaw. The powerful cutting head features four 26-in. high-speed circular
saw blades that can easily slice through up to 4-in.-diameter tree limbs, leaving a
smooth, finished cut. Its hydraulically powered by a 38-hp hydraulic motor with
power transferring from the motor to the blades by three high-performance Micro-V belts
attached to the rear of the cutter, reducing chances of entanglement.
A wide cutting swath of 7.5 ft. offers an economical way to keep valuable time and
manpower at a premium. The BuzzBar may be mounted to all Alamo Industrial booms featuring
reaches of 17 to 35 ft. from tractor centerline.

Zero-turn mowers
Husqvarnas new Zero-Turn Series model ZTH6125 features a solid unibody frame that
provides a low center of gravity and wheel stance for excellent stability. There are 19
cutting heights to fit any application, and new decks, in 52- and 61-in. options, offer a
range from 1.5- to 6-in. cutting height in 0.25-in. increments. The new ZTH4821 runs longer
and faster between refills with a fuel capacity of 11.4 gal. and a ground speed up to 8
mi./hour. The overall design, coupled with larger diameter and wider tires, has shown less
turf compaction and a smoother ride.

Riding mowers
This spring, Exmark Manufacturing will introduce the XP Series. The series uses the
performance and productivity of liquid-cooled engine technology that includes: high hp
delivering maximum power with ground speeds up to 11 mi./hour forward and 7 in reverse;
more consistent operating temperatures that reduce stress on vital engine parts and
improve fuel efficiency; liquid-cooling passages in each cylinder that reduce engine
noise; reduced maintenance due to having no engine fins that collect debris; and up-top
radiator positioning that draws the cleanest, coolest air.
